Save Our Pool!

9th April 2025

It all started like this… we were talking about the importance of communicating our opinions and how we did that in a democracy if we want to influence change. We talked about writing letters, filling in targeted questionnaires, making petitions and peacefully protesting. We hard about the potential closure of Bedwas Leisure Centre and Bedwas Library and so we set to work.

Liz Sharma – consultation and Public engagement officer drop-in session

We attended an on-line drop in session to air our view- we even received an email back with further explanations of anything that couldn’t be answered.

Bext we set to work and all answered questionnaires that had been published about opposition to the closure of Bedwas Pool. We also decided that a protest might be in order! We made posters ready for the big day and invited other local school to join us. We also contacted the Community Police for permission.

The Big day was on 9th April. We walked to Bedwas pool and along with pupils from Tyn-Y-Wern and Bedwas Juniors, we protested about the closure of the pool.

Are we nearly there yet?
Thirsty work all this protesting!
Sharing squash with our fellow protesters
Save our pool! Save our pool!

We also had a petition which we asked the children in the other schools and any other passersby to sign if they supported our cause.

…and all this before lunchtime!

Careers Fair – better late than never

March 11th

Mrs Mansfield

So sorry for the gap in our posts – there was a problem uploading images after the configuration of our systems. Hopefully no we’ll be back on track! What did you miss? Well, our big event of the year. That is to say the big event of the careers and Communication Senedd – the 2025 careers fair which was on 11th March. here are our presenters.

The Presenters for Careers Fair 2025

Hopefully you can see that we had an Influencer, well we would have, had she not been called to the Dominican Republic for work! This was a big sister of one of our Year 5 pupils. We learned about the Architecture aspect of construction, we had a dance instructor/PT visit (ex-pupil), a local farmer, a radiographer and an ex-air steward. The pupils had an enjoyable morning learning about all these different careers.

A bit of a catch up

Sorry to have not added to our Blog recently – since our computers have updated, I have found it difficult to add images to the Blog, but I have now successfully found a way around this.

So much has happened since our last update. However, the best, for me, was the Year 6 Residential to Llangrannog. What fun we had and THE WHOLE CLASS WENT! This was a first. I’ll let the pictures do the talking!

When we arrived and had lunch
Team building activity. A very big jigsaw where all the pieces were the same colour and there was no picture

I could go on. What a cracking few days. Most of the pupils wanted to stay longer and i don’t blame them.

Today, we went around different classes during Senedd including: the cafe, year 5, year 4, year 3 and year six classrooms and we took some photos of the children having fun!

In the year four classroom, they are making posters about coping strategies. It seems like fun! They are doing health and well-being.

In the year five classroom, they are talking about the parish and they are making cards about God the father. They are the chaplaincy group.

In the cafe, they are learning about computer safety and organising folders on their computers. they are the IT group.

In the year 3 classroom, they are learning about Welsh traditions and they are making Welsh cards. They are the Welsh Senedd group.

Everybody is very excited for Christmas! I hope you are as well! Have a good Christmas and a happy new year!
